As most of you know, this cruise is a celebration of our 25th
Anniversary (December 15, 1990), Michael’s 70th birthday this coming
October and my 65th birthday this coming August.
Yesterday was Valentine’s Day here onboard the Pacific
Princess and lots of love-themed activities are going on. The dining room was fully decorated for the Valentine’s
Day brunch and a “renewal of our marriage vows” was scheduled for this
afternoon. Since we are celebrating our
25th anniversary, I convinced Michael to attend. (I tried posting last night but couldn't.)
We renewed our vows in front of Captain Domenico Lubrano
Lavadera who was also celebrating his own wedding anniversary, without his
wife, of course. We received a Renewal
of Marriage Vows Certificate and had our photo taken with the Captain which we’ll
see later on today.
Observations: Connection is so slow, I can't upload any photos. But, except for one lovely
couple we’ve met, who were dressed all in white from head to toe, and she with
a gorgeous garland of flowers around her head, most came in shorts and
t-shirts. When one gal said to Michael
after seeing he was in a tuxedo and me in a long gown, “I didn’t change my
clothes," he said to her, “well, you
still have 15 minutes, to which she responded, “well, there’s bridge right
after this.” A gal next to me said, “I
didn’t even think to change my clothes.”
I guess we all have our priorities.
We both wondered, as we made our way back to our cabin,
“what will it take for people to dress up?”
People don’t dress up for Church, many don’t dress for “formal nights”
on the cruise and “smart casual” dress means to most people, “what would I wear
to McDonalds?” If someone wouldn’t get
dressed up when they renewed their marriage vows, what would they get dressed
up for?
